Suncorp has received around 11,000 claims in relation to a February hailstorm in Sydney, with the financial impact estimated to be $150-$170 million.

Suncorp has received around 11,000 claims across its brands in relation to a hailstorm in Sydney on February 18.

The insurer says the financial impact of the event is expected to be between $150 million and $170 million, which will drive up its total natural hazard claims costs to between $610 and $630 million for the eight months to February 2017.

Suncorp, whose insurance brands include AAMI, GIO, Shannons and Bingle, says it is well protected against further natural hazard events, with additional cover in place.
