Sydney man charged over shooting, kidnap

A man is due to face a string of charges in court after he was allegedly involved in the shooting and kidnap of a man in Sydney's west.

A man has been charged with shooting, assaulting and kidnapping another man in Sydney's west.

It's alleged the 41-year-old victim was outside a kebab shop in Smithfield when he was assaulted by five men and shot in the leg in July 2013.

The attackers then forced him into a car and he was driven to Auburn Hospital where he was dumped on the street, police say.

His car was found on fire soon after at Regents Park.

The shooting has been under investigation by the Middle Eastern Organised Crime Squad under Strike Force Maloney.

On Monday night a 38-year-old man was arrested and charged with discharging a firearm with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, aggravated kidnapping, stealing a motor vehicle and malicious damage by fire.

He was refused bail to appear at Fairfield Local Court on Tuesday.

He is the fifth person to be charged over the shooting.
