Sydney man charged with child procurement

Detectives who posed as a 13-year-old girl online have charged a Sydney man with child procurement and possessing child abuse material.

A Sydney man has been charged with child procurement and possessing child abuse material after detectives posed online as a 13-year-old girl.

NSW Sex Crimes Squad officers arrested the 29-year-old Ryde man on Thursday and have also charged him with drug possession.

Police said the squad received information from Queensland police last month about the man's alleged online activities.

Detectives then assumed the online identity of a 13-year-old girl and engaged the man in conversation via a social networking site and through mobile phone text messages.

Police allege the man graphically outlined a number of sexual acts he would like to perform on the 13-year-old girl.

After the man's arrest a search warrant was executed at his Ryde home and electronic storage devices and mobile phones were seized.

The man has been charged with using a carriage service to procure a person under 16 years of age for sexual activity, possessing child abuse material and possessing a prohibited drug.

He was granted strict conditional bail to appear at Burwood Local Court on March 19.
