A man with suspected bikie links has been shot several times after answering a knock at the door of his Sydney home.

The 44-year-old was taken to hospital with injuries to his arm, stomach and buttocks following the shooting at Horningsea Park in the city's southwest on Sunday night.

His wife, three adult children and nephew were at home at the time.

It's believed at least four shots were fired before the gunman fled.

A neighbour says he saw two men run from the house and drive off in a white station wagon, News Corp reports.

Police believe it was a targeted attack.
