A man has been hospitalised after he was punched in the face during a home invasion in Sydney's eastern suburbs.

The 36-year-old man confronted two men, believed to be in their 30s, after he was woken by voices coming from the hallway of a Bondi beach unit on Monday night, police say.

One of the intruders then punched the man in the face before they both fled from the scene.

It is believed the man's wallet and phone were stolen, police said.

The 36-year-old man has been taken to St Vincent's Hospital for treatment to his fractured left cheekbone and eye socket.
