Two homes have been raided in Sydney's west with police searching for a link to a major security operation at a CBD court complex.
Riot police and detectives descended on homes on Lockwood St in Merrylands on Thursday afternoon.
It came only hours after riot squad officers arrived at the Downing Centre following a tip-off about a potential disruption to court appearances.
Armoured police vehicles circled the inner-city courthouse, with the heavy response related to a trial involving a notorious crime figure.
A source said the presence was connected to a threat to someone heading to the court centre on Thursday morning and that prisoner transfers had been suspended.
The Ten Network reported there was a plan for a drive-by shooting outside the courthouse and to breakout a notorious prisoner in an assault on a prison van.
Riot squad officers stayed at the courthouse for less than three hours.
Neither of the two events on Thursday were terrorism related, police said.
"Police are also investigating whether there are any links between the potential disruptions at Sydney courts this morning and the premises in Merrylands," they said.
