Sydney shines in radio awards

The finalists have been announced for the Australian Commercial Radio Awards and Sydney's on-air teams are well represented.

Commercial radio's stars are used to doing battle in their home towns for ratings but when it comes to the Australian Commercial Radio Awards, the rivalry between the cities gets an airing.

Sydney breakfast duo Kyle and Jackie O have suffered some bumps in their listener numbers since decamping to Kiis FM this year but will be trying to keep last year's title of Metropolitan Best On-Air Team FM from their ARN stablemates Jonesy and Amanda.

Also hoping for the title will be breakfast rivals Fitzy and Wippa from Nova in Sydney with the Triple M Hot Breakfast team from Melbourne and drive-time multi-city shows from Kiis and Nova in with a chance.

It seems Melbourne has the best talk teams, with 3AW fielding two for the title of Metropolitan Best On-Air Team AM against one from SEN in Melbourne and only two from Sydney - from 2UE and 2GB.

The awards will be presented in Melbourne on October 18 across 23 categories, recognising talent from Australian country, regional and metropolitan stations.
