The parents of Indian siege hostage Viswakanth Ankireddy have spoken of their relief at their son’s safe escape.
Viswakanth Ankireddy, an Infosys employee and resident of Guntur district in India's southern state of Andhra Pradesh, was among the hostages who were safely evacuated from the cafe after being held at a gunpoint.
Father Shankar Reddy said he had remained hopeful all along.
“From the beginning itself I have confidence that my son will come out of this problem,” he said.
“Nothing to worry. I have suggested to my brother as well as daughters and everybody, even my wife also, it is a small problem, nothing to worry.”
Family members were elated to see Mr Ankireddy coming out of the cafe on television, a dramatic end to a standoff that dragged on for more than 16 hours.
Police opened fire as they stormed the cafe where several hostages were being held.
Heavy gunfire and loud bangs from stun grenades filled the air shortly after 2 am.
Two hostages and the hostage taker were killed during the siege.
