Sydney teacher on grooming charges

A primary school teacher from Sydney is facing grooming and procuring charges after being arrested by child exploitation detectives in Queensland.

A Sydney primary school teacher has been charged with grooming after he was caught heading to Queensland with the alleged intention of having sex with a 14-year-old girl.

Peter Bosma, 50, appeared in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday where he was granted bail. However, he remains in custody until a $20,000 surety is posted.

The teacher from Waitara Public School in Sydney's north has been removed from teaching duties.

Detectives from a Queensland taskforce dedicated to investigating online child exploitation and abuse stopped Bosma shortly after his arrival in Brisbane on Saturday.

They allege he used the internet to co-ordinate a meeting for sexual activity with the girl, who was actually a police investigator posing as a 14-year-old.

He has been charged with one count of using a carriage service to groom a person under 16 and six counts of using a carriage service to procure a person under 16 years of age.

The NSW Department of Education have told parents the charges don't relate to children at Waitara Public School.

Bosma's case is due for mention in Brisbane on June 11.
