The work - a stained glass window believed to be nearly 100 years old – was discovered behind a brick wall at the university’s Anderson Stuart  building, known as the old medical school.

The six panels on the window showcase the history of medicine.

The only glimpse that previously available of the window was the very top, which could only be seen from a faculty men’s bathroom on the campus.

Associate Professorr Kevin Keay said staff had broken the rules once or twice so others could catch a glimpse.

"[We] occasionally invited females, when the bathroom was unoccupied, to have a look," he said.

Professor Jonathan Stone led the effort to remove the bathroom and the walls covering the glass.

Now, the once-hidden pioneers of medicine are watching over new generations of medical students.
