The world's biggest-selling author heads a long list of international authors taking part in the Sydney Writers' Festival.
American thriller novelist James Patterson has been topping the best-seller lists for the past 13 years and will attempt to make sense of this year's theme, How to live?
He will be joined by New York Times best-selling author Laurie Halse Anderson, mortician Caitlin Doughty and renowned novelists Amy Bloom, Michael Frayn, and Anthony Horowitz.
Actors David Walliams and Alan Cumming also feature on the program as does the man who coined the term Generation X, Douglas Coupland.
Flying the Aussie flag will be 2014 Man Booker prize-winner Richard Flanagan and other local luminaries including Helen Garner, Kate Grenville and Don Watson.
More than 400 Australian and 45 international writers are set to entertain the expected 60,000 festival attendees in May.
