Syria raid mistake report still weeks away

Defence is still waiting for a report on what occurred in an air raid on Syria which hit government forces and not Islamic State targets.

Defence is still waiting for a report on a botched mission in which Australian aircraft participated in an attack on Syrian government ground forces rather than the Islamic State group.

Acting defence force chief Vice Admiral Ray Griggs said that report could still be some weeks away and Australia was as keenly awaiting the outcome as everyone else.

The attack occurred on September 17 with coalition aircraft, , including the RAAF, attacking what they thought were IS positions, only to be informed as the raid progressed that their targets were Syrian government forces.
