All-Australian defender Daniel Talia has signed a five-year AFL contract extension with Adelaide.

The long-term deal keeps him with the Crows until at least the end of 2021 and goes a long way to ensuring he finishes as a one-club player.

Talia, 24, has played 98 games since being drafted in 2009 and has become one of the competition's best defenders.

A consistent performer, he is a past club champion (2014), All Australian (2014) and Rising Star award winner (2012), since emerging as a valued member of the senior leadership group.

Talia said he was thrilled to continue his career at the Crows.

"I have spoken before about my passion for the club and I feel this playing group has the talent and determination to achieve sustained success," Talia said.

"There is a positive vibe around the place, a willingness to work hard and genuine desire to continually improve.

"Everyone, and especially our fans, should be excited about the direction we are heading," Talia added.

Coach Don Pyke described Talia as a player who set a standard to which others should aspire.

"Daniel is much more than an elite defender in the AFL, but also a respected and valued leader at our club.

"He sets high standards and drives our playing group to be the best they can be," Pyke said.

Victorian-born Talia was to have fallen off contract at the end of this season.

The Crows are also believed to be close to announcing that fellow All-Australian backman Brodie Smith has also re-signed.
