Tamou avoids NRL suspension for knee

James Tamou has been charged for dropping his knee into Manly's Dylan Walker, but will only be fined over the incident.

James Tamou has avoided suspension for dropping his knee on Dylan Walker's face in Penrith's NRL loss to Manly on Saturday.

Panthers prop Tamou was spotted making contact with Walker's head in a tackle midway through the first half and the Manly five-eighth remained on the ground for some time after.

But the Panthers said on Sunday he'd only copped a grade-one contrary conduct charge for the matter from the NRL match review committee, which attracts a fine of $1500.

The incident occurred in Walker's return match from a fractured eye socket, suffered when he was punched by Melbourne's Curtis Scott in May.
