Tamulis nabs first LPGA Tour win

American Kris Tamulis finally broke through for her maiden LPGA Tour victory in Alabama.

It took her 186 tournaments but American Kris Tamulis finally broke through for her maiden LPGA Tour victory in Alabama.

The 34-year-old Tamulis played 29 holes on Sunday in the twice-delayed tournament, finishing a third-round 67 and closing with a 65 for a 17-under-par 271 total, beating South Korea's Yani Tseng and fellow American Austin Ernst by a stroke.

"It was amazing," Tamulis said. "I was definitely not expecting this today."

Tseng had rounds of 71 and 67, and Ernst shot 68-69 with the weather clearing up after delays totalling nearly seven hours the previous two days.

Both parred the final hole with a chance to force a playoff.

Tamulis had previously had a pair of runner-up finishes in 2004 on the Symetra Tour.

Minjee Lee finished 69 71 and tied with Sarah Jane Smith 66 70 as the leading Australians in a group sharing 23rd at six-under.
