V8 Supercars driver Garth Tander has re-signed with the Holden Racing Team (HRT) on a new multi-year deal.

The three-time Bathurst 1000 champion has been a member of the Holden factory team for seven years and is in his 17th season as a full-time V8 Supercars driver.

It's believed the new deal will keep Tander in the Walkinshaw Racing stable until at least the end of 2016.

Tander, the 2007 V8s series champion, sits fourth on the all-time race wins list in Australian touring car history with 52 victories.

The 37-year-old lies in 14th position in this year's championship going into his hometown event, the Perth 400 at Barbagallo Raceway.

With a best finish of sixth from the 13 races so far in 2014, Tander says his new deal could be just the boost he needs going into this weekend's event.

"I always love racing at home in Perth," Tander said.

"It's great to be able to announce the contract extension prior to the weekend because I've had so much support from everyone in Western Australia. Hopefully we can celebrate it with a great race weekend on-track as well."

Tander's new deal means he and teammate James Courtney will become HRT's longest-serving driver pairing.

HRT managing director Adrian Burgess says the partnership between Tander and Courtney is a solid one for the team.

"They've got a lot of respect for each other," Burgess said.

"They're both highly motivated and determined, and don't accept second best. For me, that's important to have that element from the drivers.

"They get on well both off-track and on, and that's what we need within the team at the moment."
