Taronga's orangutans reach for a cuppa

Taronga Zoo's orangutans Jantan and Willow have celebrated International Orangutan Day by drinking tea.

As many reach for a warm cuppa while the miserable weather moves through Sydney, Taronga Zoo's orangutans have hit the bottle on International Orangutan Day.

The preferred brew for Taronga pair Jantan and Willow is a special herbal tea.

And raspberry is their favourite flavour.

"Giving tea to the orangutans is part of their enrichment schedule and is very popular in winter," said the zoo's senior primate keeper, Melissa Shipway.

"We give them herbal teas as opposed to caffeinated because it's better for them. We offer them lots of different flavoured varieties," she said.

However, Jantan and Willow don't drink their brew from fine bone china, instead gulping the blend from a bottle.

They celebrated their day with their favourite food in the form of spiky, smelly durian fruit.
