Tas baby drowns in inflatable pool

Police have called for parents to be extremely vigilant around small inflatable pools after a 17-month-old boy drowned in Tasmania.

A 17-month-old baby has drowned in a backyard inflatable swimming pool in Tasmania.

It is believed the baby boy fell into a backyard inflatable swimming pool in New Norfolk and was found by family members about 5.20pm (AEDT) on Tuesday.

Attempts were made to revive him at the scene but he was taken to the Royal Hobart Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police have called for parents to be extremely vigilant in the use of small inflatable pools around young children.
