Tasmanian police will not investigate matters in relation to the misuse of government credit cards by disgraced Victorian Liberal Party director Damien Mantach during his time in the Apple Isle.

Mr Mantach is being investigated for allegedly stealing $1.5 million from the Victorian branch, but questions have been raised about his time in Tasmania.

He resigned from the Tasmanian branch after repaying almost $50,000 in credit card debt.

Tasmanian Labor leader Bryan Green called on police to investigate whether repayments made by Mr Mantach were hidden from the party's own financial auditors in an attempt to cover up the credit card scandal.

On Saturday, police advised Mr Green they would not follow up his claims because it does not investigate alleged property offences without a complaint from a victim, or a person acting on behalf of a victim.

Tasmania Premier Will Hodgman, who was aware of the matter in 2008, criticised Mr Green's actions.

"He's a bush lawyer and a bad one," Mr Hodgman told reporters on Saturday.

"He should have got better legal advice."

The Liberal Party has insisted there was no criminality linked to the Mantach matters in Tasmania and Mr Hodgman said Saturday's police decision served as proof.
