Tas premier sorry over ABC vote gaffe

Tasmanian Premier Will Hodgman has apologised for misleading the state's parliament over his involvement in a Liberal party debate over ABC ownership.

Tasmanian Liberal Premier Will Hodgman has been forced to apologise to the state's parliament after mistaking his whereabouts during a party vote on ABC ownership.

The Liberal Party Federal Council at the weekend voted in favour of privatising the public broadcaster.

Asked about his position during question time on Tuesday, Mr Hodgman said he would "never" have voted for privatisation and wasn't in the room when the vote happened.

Labor then tweeted a photo it claimed showed Mr Hodgman looking at his phone in the room at the time of the vote.

He later corrected the record.

"I inadvertently advised the house that I was not present in the debate and the vote," Mr Hodgman said.

"It has come to my attention that while I was present, I did not participate in the debate nor did I vote in support of the motion.

"The footage shows I was more focused on my imminent address."

Labor labelled Mr Hodgman's initial comments an outright lie.

"(He) obviously didn't know this evidence existed and treated the parliament with the same contempt he shows for Tasmanians," Labor MP David O'Bryne said in a statement.
