Tas woman dies from gunshot wound

A man will face court charged with murder after a woman shot in a roadside attack in Hobart died in hospital on Thursday night.

A man will face court accused of murder after the death in hospital of a woman shot in a roadside attack in Hobart.

Police allege the 73-year-old Huon Valley man shot the 37-year-old woman - believed to be his estranged partner - after stopping her car in Risdon Road, New Town, on Thursday afternoon.

She was rushed to Royal Hobart Hospital but later died.

The woman's companion, 53, received injuries to her hand and arm in the attack and is in a stable condition in hospital.

The man was arrested at the scene after he was restrained by a passing motorist.

He will appear in court on Friday.
