Taxpayers fork out $200k in Bennelong poll

The Bennelong by-election has cost taxpayers more than $207,000 in election funding for political parties who ran candidates.

The Liberal Party netted more than $100,000 in taxpayers dollars following the by-election in the Sydney federal seat of Bennelong.

The Labor party received $80,000 in election funding, while the Greens and Australian Conservatives split the remaining $24,000.

Liberal backbencher John Alexander reclaimed the seat after resigning from parliament as part of the dual citizenship saga.
