A Sydney high school teacher charged with indecently assaulting a 12-year-old student has been assigned to duties where he doesn't come into contact with children.
The 67-year-old man was arrested at his school in the city's west on Tuesday following a complaint from a girl.
She alleges he indecently assaulted her twice last week.
The teacher was refused bail and is due to appear at Blacktown Local Court on Wednesday, charged with two counts of aggravated indecent assault.
In a statement, the NSW Department of Education and Communities said the teacher had been assigned to a "child-free workplace" as soon as police informed the department of his arrest and likely charging.
It said counselling and support had been offered by the school to the student.
The department said the welfare of children was a departmental priority and "any staff behaviour that compromises this commitment is not tolerated". It said the teacher's future employment would be considered when court proceedings were concluded.
