Teen charged over fatal crash in south WA

A 17-year-old boy who was driving a car that crashed on Pink Lake, killing an 18-year-old man and critically injuring a 14-year-old girl, has been charged.

The driver of a car that crashed on a salt lake in Western Australia's far south, killing a teenager, has been charged with a string of offences.

Police allege the 17-year-old was driving a Mazda 121 sedan that rolled over several times on Pink Lake near Esperance at about 2am (WST) on Saturday, killing an 18-year-old man and critically injuring a 14-year-old girl.

Both were not wearing seat belts and were thrown from the back seat.

A 13-year-old female passenger in the front seat, an 18-year-old boy in the boot and the driver were not injured.

On Monday, police said the driver had been charged with dangerous driving causing death, dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm, no authority to drive, drive unlicensed motor vehicle and fail to ensure his passengers were wearing seatbelts.

He is due to appear in the Esperance Childrens Court on March 14.

Police are seeking information from witnesses, particularly anyone who saw the manner of driving before the crash.
