A 14-year-old boy is in an induced coma after being found with a serious head injury on a cricket pitch in Broken Hill.

A teenager's been found unconscious with a blunt force injury to the base of his skull in far west NSW.

The 14-year-old boy is in an induced coma in the Royal Adelaide Hospital after being discovered on a cricket pitch at Broken Hill's O'Neil Park about 5am on Thursday.

Police say it's unclear how the boy was injured.
