Teen jailed over NRL star's car escapes

Hayley Anne Gillespie, the teenager jailed for 18 months for buying Darius Boyd's stolen Audi A5 coupe, has escaped a Queensland jail with another inmate.

A teenage girl jailed after buying a luxury car, stolen from NRL star Darius Boyd, for a small quantity of drugs is one of two prisoners to escape a Queensland jail.

Queensland Corrective Services confirmed Hayley Gillespie, 19, escaped from Numinbah Correctional Centre with fellow inmate Mary Brimble on Friday afternoon.

Gillespie was handed an 18 month-long sentence after she pleaded guilty to 57 charges in the Pine Rivers Magistrates Court on August 21.

Gillespie's matter had previously been adjourned so the prosecution could determine when and where damage was done to the car owned by Brisbane Broncos fullback Boyd and his wife, although this could not be established, the court heard.

The car has a market value of $78,000.

In sentencing, Magistrate Trevor Morgan said it was "gut-wrenchingly sad" to see the young woman heading to jail.

He noted she had a "long road ahead of her" in battling a drug addiction.

Meanwhile, Brimble is serving 22 months for robbery with actual violence and occasioning bodily harm offences.

She is also 19 and has multiple tattoos on her right arm, including the words "Mareeba Baby Juggalette".

Numinbah Correctional Centre is a low security jail about 100km south of Brisbane in the Gold Coast hinterland.

It houses up to 55 female prisoners and encourages a self-directed rehabilitation model.

Police aren't sure how the teenagers escaped and investigations to find them are ongoing.
