Teen boy brought to safety after cliff fall

A teenager is in hospital after he fell more than twenty metres onto a rock ledge on Sydney's northern beaches.

An ambulance spokesman says the boy - believed to be about 16 - was winched to safety by a rescue helicopter from a cliff face in Dee Why just before midday on Tuesday.

"Rescuers roped down to stabilise him and the helicopter was brought in to winch him to safety," the spokesman told AAP.

The teen is recovering at Royal North Shore hospital after receiving multiple abrasions and cuts to his body, as well as lower limb injuries.

Earlier, a 37-year old man was winched to safety after spending a night on a rock ledge in north Curl Curl, the adjoining beach to Dee Why.

Police searched for him after the alarm was raised when he failed to return from a walk on Monday.

The Westpac Lifesaver helicopter was used to winch the man to safety, police said.
