Federal Treasurer Joe Hockey had an unusual interruption at his press conference this morning when a teenage girl jumped in to ask for a selfie.

The girl, identified as 16-year-old Anika Buining, requested the selfie as Mr Hockey was speaking to media about his second budget, to be delivered tonight.

The bewildered treasurer took a moment to pose for the photo saying "I don't want to be Kevin Rudd, but.."

Before walking away, Ms Buining thanked the treasurer and wished him luck for the night ahead.

Mr Hockey said the photobomb wasn't staged, saying he had never met the teenager in his life.
