Teens charged over Perth tomahawk rampage

Two boys, aged 13 and 16, have been charged with a string of offences after they allegedly went on a crime spree in Perth while wielding a tomahawk.

Two teenagers have been charged after they allegedly threatened residents of central Perth suburbs with a tomahawk while trying to steal a car.

The boys, aged 13 and 16, were among a group of three to four armed offenders who targeted four homes in Carlisle and East Victoria Park within just 20 minutes on Sunday morning.

In two separate incidents, an 81-year-old woman was pushed over and an 84-year-old man's car was stolen.

The group had earlier forced their way into a residence on Beatty Avenue, East Victoria Park, and assaulted three occupants.

They had also allegedly attacked a man outside his residence on Bank Street in the same suburb, but he managed to seek refuge inside his house, and it is believed one of the offenders struck his front door with the tomahawk.

Police later found the elderly man's car abandoned in the northern suburb of Koondoola.

After releasing images of the offenders to the media, and on Facebook and Twitter, Crime Stoppers received several calls.

As a result, the teens, both from the southeastern suburb of Camillo, were arrested and charged with a string of offences, including aggravated armed robbery, stealing a motor vehicle and common assault.

They were refused bail and will appear in the Perth Children's Court later on Monday.
