Telstra ready for metadata retention

Telstra says it may be the only telco ready to retain metadata under new government laws.

Telstra says it is one of the few telcos that is ready to retain customers' metadata under new laws that come into force on Tuesday.

"Telstra is one of the few - if not the only one - telecommunications providers that has submitted a data retention plan and had it approved by the government," chairman Catherine Livingstone told shareholders at the company's annual general meeting.

"So, we are organised to do this and will implement it over 18 months."
