The Indonesian-born singer of Australian indie rock band The Temper Trap has taken to social media to plead for the lives of two Australian heroin smugglers on death row.

Bali Nine ringleaders Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran could soon face the firing squad in Indonesia after six prisoners were executed on Sunday, and as President Joko Widodo backs another 20 executions this year as "shock therapy" to would-be drug pushers.

Dougy Mandagi, who fronts the ARIA Award-winning band, says his friend Chan is a reformed man.

"The Andrew that walked in that cell 15 years ago would not recognise the Andrew today," Mandagi says on the band's website.

"Andrew's life is just beginning and is now in grave danger of being snuffed out at its prime."

Chan, who is still awaiting the official result of a presidential clemency request, has become a devout Christian in jail and is "changing the world around him", Mandagi says.

"What a waste it would be to end this life that is so full of promise," he said.

Archibald Prize-winning artist Ben Quilty, who has been an outspoken advocate for the men since visiting them in their Bali prison, has also joined the campaign for clemency for the pair, and Human Rights Commissioner Tim Wilson has lent his voice via the Twitter hashtag #KeepHopeAlive.
