The court appearance of two men charged with planning a terror attack has been delayed because of a power outage in Sydney's CBD.

Central Local Court, where the pair are due to appear on Thursday, is among 1100 premises that have lost power across several blocks adjacent to Hyde Park.

Metal detectors are down and the court has been temporarily closed.

Power was cut at about 9.40am after Ausgrid detected a fault with two underground cables supplying the area.

Crews are inspecting the fault and may have to rip up sections of road to fix it, an Ausgrid spokesman said.

Power will hopefully be restored to most of the area within an hour, he said, but warned it could be longer.

Omar al-Kutobi, 24, and Mohammad Kiad, 25, were allegedly JUST hours from carrying out a terror attack when they were arrested at a Fairfield granny flat on Tuesday.

The two men will appear via video link, not in person, when the court re-opens, Justice NSW says.
