Tessa Worley wins women's giant slalom

French champion Tessa Worley has won the women's World Cup giant slalom at St Moritz in Switzerland from Jessica Lindell-Vikarby and Slovenian Tina Maze.

PA - French skier Tessa Worley won the women's World Cup giant slalom at St Moritz on Sunday for her eighth career victory.

The 24-year-old world champion finished ahead of Sweden's Jessica Lindell-Vikarby while Slovenian Tina Maze was third.

Worley was fastest in both runs for victory by a margin of 0.37 seconds.

World Cup leader Lara Gut failed to finish in front of a Swiss home crowd.

"I am happy to have managed two good runs. It is a big relief because I was not doing so well in giant slalom," said Worley, whose eight career wins have all come in the discipline.

Maze missed a first season victory again with her second third-place finish of the campaign, a year after dominating the sport in a record-breaking performance, but was satisfied with the podium.

"Such a result is important for me" as a confidence booster, Maze said.
