Wallabies centre Karmichael Hunt says reaching the pinnacle in his third football code has been a long, tough battle but running out onto AAMI Park to make his Test debut against Fiji will make it all worthwhile.
The 30-year-old is the Wallabies new inside centre, with his Test debut coming 11 years after playing his first rugby league match for Australia. In between, he spent four years in the AFL.
Hunt's selection was a surprise - even to him - after spending the Super Rugby season as Queensland's fullback but coach Michael Cheika said his hunger and resilience couldn't be ignored.
"It was a little bit surprising given I've been playing at 15 for the last couple of years but when it comes to Test footy you take whatever jersey is given to you," Hunt said.
"I was a little bit shocked but I've managed to get my head around the plays but I'm looking forward to it and come game day I will be ready."

Hunt said his Wallabies selection was something to savour given the tumultuous path to it.
He joined the Reds in 2015 but had only played one game before he was charged with cocaine possession stemming from his time with Gold Coast Suns and suspended.
In 2016 Hunt was selected in the Wallabies training squad to face England but was forced to withdraw with a groin injury that eventually required surgery.
"It obviously hasn't been an easy road for me," Hunt said.
"So to be able to get here and make my debut against Fiji, it doesn't get any sweeter for me."
Hunt said it would be extra special to make his first international appearance alongside fullback Israel Folau, with the pair treading similar paths through three codes, playing together at the Brisbane Broncos and against each other in the AFL.
Hunt's rugby league debut in the Anzac Test in 2006 only lasted 51 minutes before the Kangaroos fullback was knocked out in a high hit by New Zealand enforcer Frank Pritchard.
"I remember half of it, until I got knocked out," Hunt said.
"It was a really physical game so tomorrow isn't going to be any different - I just hope I can last the full 80 minutes."
Hunt will be up against another big body in Fiji's 121kg-inside centre Jale Vatubua, who is also making his Test debut.
The Queenslander wasn't fazed.
"I enjoy defending in the front line and that's what I've been doing all year and I feel comfortable there.
"No doubt I will be sore after the game but when you wear the jersey you put your body on the line."
