The Uniting Church in Australia has joined Human Rights Watch and a host of other groups to urge Thailand not to send prisoners to work in the country's fishing industry.
They've written a letter to Prime Minister Prayut Chan-O-Cha, whose government wants to recruit inmates from correctional facilities to fill a major labour shortage.
Spokesman Mark Zirnsak told Van Nguyen the Uniting Church is concerned by claims of serious human rights breaches within Thailand's fishing industry, of which Australia is also a customer.
