The South African branch of The Salvation Army has used the famous black and blue/white and gold dress in a campaign against domestic violence.

The dress, which created intense online debate around which colours people saw in its patterns, was picked up by the South African organisation for a new campaign seeking to end violence against women.

The campaign features a heavily bruised woman wearing the dress with the tagline "Why is it so hard to see black and blue? One in 6 women are victims of abuse."

The image quickly spread across the internet after it was posted online by the organisation on Twitter.
