The Block increases its audience share

More viewers are turning to the Nine Network's reality renovation show The Block, according to the latest TV ratings.

The Block: Fans v Faves has increased its audience numbers by more than 12 per cent, despite the dominance of rival reality series My Kitchen Rules (MKR).

In the absence of MKR on Thursday, The Block: Fans v Faves won the ratings with 1.102 million viewers, ahead of Seven News (1.018 million) and Nine News (1.009 million).

Overall, the Nine Network's reality renovation show may be running a distant second to MKR on the evenings they go head-to-head, but the station is far from disappointed.

Compared with The Block Allstars, which screened at the same time last year on Nine, the Fans v Faves edition is performing well in the ratings.

That's despite going head-to-head with MKR, which pulls about 1.8 million viewers per night.

Over 2014's first 19 episodes, The Block: Fans v Faves averaged 1.213 million viewers.

The Block All Stars averaged 1.08 million for the same opening number of episodes in 2013, which means viewers have increased by 12.3 per cent.

A Nine representative told AAP that MKR may be a success but The Block has not been left in its wake and has significantly improved its audience share.

"The network couldn't be happier with the way The Block is tracking," the Nine spokesman said.

There were two episodes of The Block on Thursday, with The Block: Fans v Faves Unlocked finishing sixth with 858,000 viewers
