The Block is bulldozed by MKR

The Block: Fans v Faves is proving no match in the ratings war for My Kitchen Rules.

Renovating reality series The Block: Fans v Faves is being bulldozed in the ratings by cooking show My Kitchen Rules (MKR).

The Block: Fans v Faves is doing reasonable numbers in the ratings but it's no match for MKR which it confronts in the 7.30pm timeslot.

MKR drew 1.911 million viewers on Wednesday to clearly win the OzTAM overnight ratings while The Block: Fans v Faves limped into seventh place with 964,000 watchers.

The gulf of approximately a million viewers is possibly the biggest for a non-final, non-elimination round of MKR and The Block.

MKR's domination is pushing The Block further down the pecking order but it's also in part because of changes to scheduling due to the one hour nightly news service.

In previous seasons, The Block used to start at 7pm, or as Nine liked to promote it, "7 O'Block", but that changed in 2014 when the 6pm half hour nightly news doubled in time on January 6.

The knock-on effect has been A Current Affair going up against Home And Away at 7pm and The Block being pushed back half an hour to directly tackle MKR.

So far, A Current Affair is being constantly beaten by the long running Seven soapie and has even been squeezed out of the top 10 on occasions.

The Block can't get close to rolling MKR but it's well ahead of Network Ten's weight loss series The Biggest Loser: Challenge, which almost got beaten by Neighbours.

The Biggest Loser: Challenge weighed-in at 27th in the ratings with 339,000 viewers while Neighbours, which screens on Ten's subsidiary Eleven, was 28th with 304,000.

Seven not only won the ratings with MKR, it also filled second with Seven news (1.047 million) while Nine News (1.036 million) was third.
