The grand slam mum club

There are only three players to have won grand slams while being mothers - and two of them are Australian tennis icons.

AS SERENA WILLIAMS PREPARES TO RETURN FROM HAVING A BABY, A LOOK AT THE THREE WOMEN TO HAVE WON GRAND SLAMS AFTER TAKING TIME OFF TO GIVE BIRTH:

MARGARET COURT (AUS):

Had her first child in March 1972 and afterwards won the Australian and French Opens once each and the US Open twice. The second US Open win was after she had given birth to baby number two.

EVONNE GOOLAGONG CAWLEY (AUS):

Her daughter was born in May 1977 and she won the Australian Open eight months later. She then also took out Wimbledon in 1980, making her the only mother to win Wimbledon in the Open era.

KIM CLIJSTERS (BEL):

Her daughter was born in 2008 and she returned the following year, lifting the US Open in only her third tournament back. She is the only player to win more majors as a mum than without kids: she defended her US Open crown in 2010 and also won the Australian Open in 2011.
