The latest front in supermarket price war

Bread is just the new front in the supermarket price wars.

Bakery products are just the latest front in the price wars between Australia's big supermarkets.

* Bread: Coles has cut the price of many bakery products by as much as 35 per cent, although one leading analyst says Woolworths still wins out on price

* Lamb: Coles and Woolies last year cut the cost of leg roasts by up to 30 per cent

* Roast chicken: The cost of a whole chook at Coles fell from about $11 to $8 in 2016, and from $11 to $7.90 at Woolies.

* Milk: In 2011 the rivals cut their home brand milk to just a dollar a litre, which has remained standard pricing despite unhappiness from some farmers
