The NBN stories you don't hear

NBN Co CEO Bill Morrow has reminded senators that customers happy with the network don't usually call their local MPs or talkback radio.

The man overseeing the rollout of the national broadband network regrets it's the problems - not the success stories - which fill talkback radio.

NBN Co CEO Bill Morrow said the vast majority of users are satisfied with the services but they are also a "silent majority".

"Nobody calls their local MP or talkback radio to say everything is wonderful or everything is working fine," he told senators at an upper house hearing in Canberra on Thursday.

"The people who call are having problems and we acknowledge there are too many."

He said he wants Australians to be proud of the network and the 15 per cent surveyed who aren't happy is his focus.

"We want to understand their issues and we want to fix them regardless of where that fault lies," he said.

The company is working with retailers to make sure customers have more information about expected speeds - and what can impact them.

NBN Co also supports work by the competition and consumer watchdog, which is monitoring speeds, Mr Morrow said.
