A Sydney man will face court on firearms charges following an investigation into thefts from a south-eastern suburban department store, police say.

Officers were investigating the alleged theft of clothing from a department store at the Eastgardens shopping centre when they searched a Maroubra home on Thursday.

Police say they recovered clothing identified from CCTV footage as related to the theft, together with a single-shot firearm, a large amount of cash and some unidentified white powder.

A 24-year-old man has been arrested and was refused bail to appear at Waverly Local Court on Friday on theft and firearms charges.
