"Hot" guacamole might be on the menu for some after the theft of thousands of avocados from a South Australian property.

More than 20 trees were stripped of their fruit at the property near Barmera in the SA north east between August 24 and September 4.

Police on Tuesday said the avocado heist weighed about 1500kg.

They are hoping footage from security cameras on the property will identify the thieves.
