Thieves steal and burn Vic firefighter ute

Victorian police and firefighters are appealing for community help to solve two break-ins at Country Fire Authority stations over the weekend.

Thieves stole chainsaws and burned out a ute in burglaries from two Victorian Country Fire Authority stations.

CFA operations manager Steve Smith said the brigades at Riddells Creek and Monegeetta were extremely disappointed with the thefts.

"To have someone steal stuff, it's like having someone (in their) home and violating their home," Mr Smith told AAP on Monday.

Police believe the stations were broken into on Saturday night or early Sunday morning.

A CFA-marked Toyota Hilux with a trailer was taken from the Riddells Creek station and driven to Melton, dumped and set alight, while chainsaws and other items were also taken.

Mr Smith said the community relied on the CFA to keep it safe, but now the CFA was relying on the community to help recover what was stolen.

Police are appealing for any information about the two break-ins.
