A third person will be charged over the death of Sydney man Dane McNeill, whose badly burned body was found stuffed in a suitcase.

Mr McNeill's body was found in the suitcase at a leafy reserve at Picnic Point in the city's southwest on July 21, 2014.

He had been reported missing three days earlier. The 20-year-old's car was later found abandoned in Cabramatta.

Mr McNeill - an ice hockey star in his childhood - had lost his way with drugs six months before his death.

The Narellan man had been involved in low-level drug dealing and pleaded guilty to a string of drug offences a month before his alleged murder.

Two other people, a 24-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman, were arrested last month and remain before the court.

Police said on Tuesday a 23-year-old man will be charged with murder and conspiracy to murder when he appears at Burwood Local Court on Tuesday on an unrelated matter.
