Third Vic man charged over $100m fraud

Another Melbourne man has been charged with defrauding a major bank of $100 million.

A third Melbourne man has been charged over a $100 million bank fraud.

Scott Arthur, 43, of Rowville, has been charged with 141 offences relating to fraudulent loans obtained from the Commonwealth Bank.

He is the latest man to be charged this week with fraud. They are accused of using false documents to receive about $100 million in loans from the Commonwealth Bank of Australia.

The fraud was allegedly committed between 2004 and 2013.

Arthur was granted bail in a brief hearing in the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Friday.

Police allege Arthur and his co-accused, Robert Zaia, 49, and poker player William Jordanou, 55, are linked to the Scoresby-based accounting firm Zaia Arthur and Associates.

The Melbourne Magistrates Court heard on Wednesday that Jordanou was acting as a financial adviser to the firm when he, Zaia, Arthur and another co-accused allegedly received the fraudulent loans.

Prosecutor Luke Exell said false tax documents, letters of employment and invoices were provided to the bank to obtain loans on 40 occasions.

Jordanou, who has competed in top poker tournaments, then used the money to fund his lifestyle and invest in property development projects, Mr Exell said.

Jordanou's lawyer George Defteros, who also appears for Zaia, said on Wednesday that Jordanou would contest the charges.

Jordanou, of Narre Warren, and Zaia, of Lysterfield, face 142 charges.

Arthur, Zaia and Jordanou, who have also been granted bail, will next appear in court in September.
