Aussie rock band Thirsty Merc have confirmed that their stage manager has been killed in a car accident and their drummer seriously injured.

The stage manager of Australian band Thirsty Merc has been killed in a car crash in Victoria that has also left their drummer in intensive care.

The band, who were en route to play a gig in Warrnambool on Tuesday night when the accident happened, say they are shattered by the death of Shane Cooper.

They confirmed in a statement on Facebook that Cooper was killed in the "horrific" accident and drummer Mick Skelton had been seriously injured.

"With the heaviest of hearts, we share this utterly tragic news ... the band is absolutely shattered," the statement said.

The band, famous for hits such as In The Summertime - the theme tune to Bondi Rescue - had been on an extensive national tour in support of their album Shifting Gears.
