Three charged over Qld insurance fire

Three men have been charged with lighting a fire at a Hervey Bay store to make a fraudulent insurance claim in a blaze that damaged neighbouring shops.

Three men have been charged with burning down an automotive business to make an insurance claim in southeast Queensland.

Police say the men, aged 28, 34 and 37, deliberately torched an automotive business in Hervey Bay on June 22.

The fire, which was lit about 11pm, damaged three shops.

Officers allege the men made a fraudulent insurance claim on the business after the fire.

While investigating the fire, police allegedly found documents and illegal steroids at a Hervey Bay address.

A Hervey Bay man, 28, he been charged with three counts of arson, one count of fraud and one count of possession of a dangerous drug.

He is due to appear in the Hervey Bay Magistrates Court on October 2.

A 34-year-old Park Ridge man and a 37-year-old Capalaba man have also been charged with arson and fraud.

The Park Ridge man is due to appear in the Hervey Bay Magistrates Court on September 4 and the Capalaba man is due to appear in the Cleveland Magistrates Court on September 16.
