Three from NT feared dead on MH17

Northern Territory chief minister Adam Giles says it's believed a school teacher and a couple from Palmerston were onboard the doomed MH17 flight.

Three residents of the Northern Territory are feared to be among the 298 killed on the Malaysia Airlines flight over Ukraine.

"Indications are that a teacher who works in a remote community was killed, as was a public servant and her husband who were Palmerston residents," NT chief minister Adam Giles said in a statement.

Mr Giles said the NT government was working closely with consular officials to verify the fears.

The NT Police Disaster Victim Identification staff remain on standby if needed to assist with identifications.

At least 28 Australians were killed in the attack on flight MH17 over the war-torn eastern territory of Ukraine.
