Three young girls have been found dead after locking themselves in a junked car while playing in the Indonesian capital, reports say.

The bodies of the three girls, reportedly aged 4 and 5, were found in the back seat of the car on Friday, three hours after they went out to play in their North Jakarta neighbourhood, the father of one of the girls told broadcaster SCTV.

Police said they believed the girls had locked themselves in the car and died of lack of oxygen and heat from the scorching sun.
